Pierre-André Utin

Pierre-André Utin (1688–1771), also recorded simply as André Utin, was a master pewterer active in Vevey, Switzerland, on the shores of Lake Geneva. Received into the craft around 1715–1736, he produced high-quality domestic and ceremonial pewter—plates, flagons, and measures—during the mid-18th century. His distinctive circular touchmark, a standing lion surrounded by the legend ANDRE UTIN, appears on surviving pieces in Swiss collections and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Utin stands among the better-documented pewterers of the Canton of Vaud and as a representative figure of regional Swiss metalworking traditions.
