In Sheffield

Also known as Albert Works, Albert Works, Sheffield, Norfolk Street works (Baum)

Albert Works was Maurice Baum's four-storey cutlery and electro-plate works on the east side of Norfolk Street in Sheffield, facing St Paul's churchyard. Tweedale / Hawley place him here by 1880; about 130 hands were claimed in the early 1890s. The 189–191 house number is the trade-list form used on the Person sheet — Hawley names the street only. The Victorian front is gone. This Place Echo is the workshop. Sheffield the town is a different Place. It is not Albert Works on Sidney Street. It is not 190 Norfolk Street. It is not a Relic and not a Chamber. Pinstone Street (from 1872; sons born at 32 Pinstone Street) is the earlier shop, not this works. John Albin bought Albert Works in 1900. The sons registered Baum Brothers from Eyre Street that year; Nursery Street is after 1904. Hatton Garden is an agency, not the works. The baths at 199 Norfolk Street were the Charles Street corner on the same pavement, not this door. 190 Norfolk Street is the even-number corner opposite. The later block on this plot is 3 St Paul's Place (lettings 129 Norfolk Street). That is not the Victorian number and not this building. Do not use Sidney Street photographs, the Grantside block, or the present glass front as this works.
